Dapper Music keeps the top spot among Nigerian labels with a 3.82% streaming share

Nigeria's biggest homegrown label still leads its local rivals, but its share of Nigerian streaming fell by more than 40% in a year.

Leading the pack and losing ground at the same time is an awkward place to be. That is where Dapper Music & Entertainment finds itself after the first half of 2026.

According to TurnTable Charts' mid-year market share report, Dapper held 3.82% of Nigerian streaming between January and June, the highest of any Nigerian-owned company and fifth overall behind EMPIRE, Virgin Music, Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group. A year earlier its share was 6.76%, so the label has given up about 43% of its slice of the market.

What the spread tells us

The gap to the next homegrown label is still wide. YBNL Nation took 2.40%, which puts Dapper about 1.6 times ahead. GIRAN Republic (1.99%), Starboy Entertainment (1.50%) and Dangbana Republik (1.42%) follow.

The more striking figure is the total. The ten biggest Nigerian-owned labels together control 17.29% of streaming in their own market. Everyone else, from the global majors and international distributors to the long tail of smaller independents, accounts for the remaining 82.7%, and the four biggest companies in the ranking are all international. Global distributors and majors have spent the past few years signing or partnering with Nigerian acts, and these numbers show how much of the economics now flows through them.

The takeaway: Nigerian labels can still break artists, but owning the distribution and catalogue is where the long-term value sits, and that is the part of the business local players are losing.
